History of the lodge:
Kambaku II Boat Safaris & Lodge began its journey in 1996 as a humble fishing spot, created for family and friends to enjoy the beauty of the Olifants River. Over time, the peaceful setting and abundant wildlife drew more visitors, inspiring the owners to build a lodge where guests could share in the experience. Three years later, their passion for adventure led to the launch of Boat Kambaku, the very first and only boat safari on the Olifants River. What started as a simple retreat has since grown into a renowned destination, offering guests an unforgettable blend of comfort, wildlife, and river exploration in the heart of the Greater Kruger.

What does the name Kambaku mean?
The name “Kambaku” originates from the Tsonga/Shangaan word meaning “solitary bull elephant” a fitting tribute to the legendary tuskers that once roamed this region. At Kambaku II, the name embodies the very spirit of the African wilderness: strength, independence, and an enduring respect for nature and its wildlife. Just like the great tuskers that inspired it, Kambaku represents timeless beauty, quiet power, and a deep connection to the wild landscapes that surround our lodge on the banks of the Olifants River.
